Oakfield College

Oakfield College

Our Oakfield students say:

‘I feel supported and I enjoy coming here.’

‘Oakfield is supporting my post-16 planning by gaining experience at college.’

‘Oakfield is different to my experience of being in schools before as I am more trusted.’

‘Staff are more patient at Oakfield than in other schools. I feel safe.’

‘I have developed resilience and patience.’

‘Oakfield is a quieter place than normal schools.’

We provide individualised packages of full time learning comprised of a range of onsite and offsite provision for KS4 students whose needs require a more bespoke form of education. Our students benefit from 1:1 and small group tutoring covering a range of academic and holistic learning opportunities, for whom a more formal style of educational environment has not been successful. The Oakfield team is committed to providing a safe, nurturing environment for our young people. We are committed to supporting our students to become successful, positive and resilient young adults, who go onto post-16 pathways.

Core learning for all students consists of English Language GCSE and Maths GCSE, SWEET (Personal and Social Development) BTEC and PDC (Personal Development Curriculum). Some students will also be entered for Entry Level Certificates in English and Maths. In addition, Oakfield students have a range of options to choose from including GCSE Art & Design, BTEC First in Travel & Tourism, BTEC Home Cooking Skills and pre-16 college carousels at New College Swindon (including photography, film making, textiles, print making) and North Star Swindon (bricklaying, carpentry, plumbing, plastering, property maintenance and motor vehicle basics). In addition, we have a range of alternative provisions which give a variety of further learning opportunities to our young people (listed below).

Our Student Action Team meets regularly, contributing their ideas and views which help the ongoing shaping of our college, as well as defining our rewards trips and other enrichment activities.
